    I think "солнечные очки" is incorrect though definitely understandable.
    Either "солнцезащитные очки" or "тёмные очки"
    Please correct my mistakes if you can, especially article usage.

    All the terms you guys gave for "sunglasses" seem to be kind of unwieldy. Is there a slang term, or would people actually say that in conversational speech?

    At least in Moscow in the late nineties it used to be incorrect to say "солнечные очки". One would say either "солнцезащитные очки" or more casually "тёмные очки". Because of that, being in the United States around that time, I stopped by a drugstore and asked for dark glasses. Eventually the lady understood me and gave me sunglasses all right.

    солнцезащитные is quite of a mouthful, солнечные is way easier to say that's why people call it that way I guess

    Unfortunatly it reminds "носочки" or something like this. It doesnt sound cool.
