ok, my russian friend is a translator and asked me what ' in its sole discretion' means in the below context. not wanting to look bad, i'd like to get her an answer (which will be a recommendation to check out MR more often!)

The Bank may require the replacement of the Expert(s) for reasons other than those referred to in the previous paragraph. In such cases, the Bank may in its sole discretion reimburse such expenses as are unavoidable in connection with the replacement. Insofar as such expenses concern fees and ancillary expenses, in respect of the Expert(s) replaced, these shall be deemed avoidable if they arise more than three months after the Bank has requested the replacement.

Wait a second... Wait a second... Is it just me, or are you actually asking Russians what an English sentence means?

Anyway, I think the meaning is crystal-clear here. It means that the Bank may do this if it feels like it, but is not obliged to. In other words, it is up to Bank to decide if it will reimburse those expenses or not. The other party (or parties) to the contract have no say in this particular matter.

I think, "in its sole discretion" = "по своему [собственному] выбору", but I don't familiar with legal phraseology. And I didn't understand the whole paragraph.
