And you'd distort the meaning that way. The original is about finding a reason to excuse someone, not about accepting an excuse. There is a distinct difference there. So that's why I wrote what I wrote. Although:
Don't you ever make any excuses for anyone...
might be a better or even the correct way of saying that. But I can't really say, I'm not a native English speaker.
