    cool off(down)

My favorite way to cool off is eating icecream.
Taking a shower helps to cool off from the heat wave.
We need to let the engine cool off.
When I get angry, I take a walk to cool off.
Correct my mistakes in russian and in english, please! Thanks!

Many other versions can be suggested.

Most likely, the engine here is двигатель/мотор (of the car), and not механизм.
Well, I don't know what to say. I want to say thanks to the Academy, to Mama, to Papa and to my dog. I love you all.

As I understand, paramita needs to find out what Russian word must be applied and in what cases.

So there is no difference between heated механизм, мотор, паровоз, машина, двигатель and other. In fact they all need to остыть in most of cases.

I would say the difference is very thin and is common and evident
for native speakers, though no special rule fits for it neither marks this difference.

    here are some samples:

Cool down - there is no need in breaking this guy's right leg too, because he will not be able to reach home untill the dawn and his mother will be very displeased.

Cool down! - she said and tossed the cold cherry juice right on his snowwhite linnen suit.

Cool down, man, have a beer, you have to dig three pits ahead. Reveered Ferrars said dig them between Mrs Johnson and Mr Morton's stone.

    It is very true.

    But there are also:

    About liquids:

    And here:

So as always it's a metter of context, I believe.

I was right. It is двигатель/мотор (of the car), and not механизм.

Механизм can be in a watch or in a clock. I don't think it needs cooling

Yes, if this clock is atomic.

How do you say cool down (off) in terms of the weather?

    Example:

If the weather cools off, we'll play outside.

    And what about warm up?

    Example:

If it warms up, we can go swimming.

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
