    Cпасибо!

Актриса вернула дома играть в роль [у]. ?

The actress returns home to play the role.

    Accusative? Feminine?

I think it means that she's already returned, but here no one can say exactly.

    I guess it's like:
Актриса вернулась домой играть в роль

It's not about rules, I'm think it's some kind of old Russian, or ignorance, or both.
    From where is it?

My reference is not accurate. I also don't know if my memory serves me right. But when I was studying Russian through tapes, it says or asks,

ЭТО ДОМА ? or ЧТО ДОМА ?

It would sound more correctly like this:
    Актриса вернулась домой играть роль.
    No preposition is necessary.

    Where's she? She's at home = дома
Where's she going (to)? She's going home = домой

    Re: Cпасибо!

In the phrase "returns" is in Present simple, it couldn't be translated as "вернулась".
With the context it will be more clear.
The translation "Актриса вернулась домой играть роль" is for "The actress returned to home to play the role."
    домой - prepositional case
    роль - accusative case

    домой - prepositional case
    роль - accusative case
Может переводиться, если это пересказ, к примеру. Но в нашей теме акцент не на использованном времени, а больше на предлоге. "Играть "В" роль" - так не говорят. Равно как не говорят return TO home (если это не определение, ибо оно писалось бы через дефис "A return-to-home base").

    крупскяа, don't get confused:
Домой - it's accusative, answers the question "Куда?", denoting a destination, not location. Prepositional would be "Дома".

    !!!

"домой" and "дома" are adverbs (two different adverbs). Adverbs have no cases.

There is also noun "дом" with accusative "дом" and prepositional "доме".
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

I need to clarify this. Yes, it-ogo, you're right, they are adverbs. But there's such a helpful category like "Expressing place" that really helps a foreign learner to understand the usage of similar adverbs and prepositions while applying cases in explaining certain locations, destinations and places. I consider it a good and helpful way to explain this stuff better - whenever we use, say, "дом, домой or из дому" attaching the particular case to them. So, for instance, here's the short explanation of what I mean. I guess in traditional teaching (Russian for the Russians) these are not used as a principle, it's basically for РКИ courses, if I'm not mistaken :
    I. Location
    Prepositional case
    Где?
    Здесь
    Там
    Дома
    в университете
    на занятии

    II. Destination
    Accusative case
    Куда?
    Сюда
    Туда
    Домой
    в университет
    на занятие

    III. Place from where
    Genitive case
    Откуда?
    Отсюда
    Оттуда
    Из дому
    из университета
    с занятия
