Thread: May I sit with you?

There's a Russian transfer student at my school and she hardly speaks any English and I would like to know how to ask her if I may sit with her. And maybe you could give me some other suggestions on things to say to her? I've already said hi and told her my name. Thanks!

Well since Saibot has not answered you, this is what I would say, if it were me. That is, if I were the type to go around hitting on unsuspecting babes. It might not be exactly right but she would understand you. Probably!

Пожалуйста, можно сидеть здесь с Вами?
Basically---Please, is it possible to sit here with you?

But what ever you do, do not tell her that you know me or you run the serious risk of her losing all interest in you.

How about:

можно посидеть рядом с тобой? (Mozhno posidet' ryadom stoboi?)
Eeek...maybe someone can make a recording of this.

It's not like I totally don't know Russian, I can say and understand lot of things, I just didn't know what to say in this particualr situation.

I would say Можно (мне) сесть (рядом) с вами? - Is it possible (to me) to sit (near) with you? Сесть(perf) if it is a single action, сидеть (imperf) if you are going to sit with someone all the time.

The only one mistake - if you are not familiar to woman (you are useing "вы") you should not to talk about her legs. If you are familiar to her to talk about her legs you should say to her ты.

Thanks, I did not even think to check for perf/ imperf when posting. I can see how this would be an important point in this case in particular.

It should be "женственный" at least, or "нежные".

Well, to tell you the truth, i haven't tried it yet. The idea was to get xcutiekayla7x to be the guinea pig and try it out first.
