"I want you to know" is not literally translatable sentense (Я хочу тебя знать). You can say "Я хочу, чтобы ты знал"

why you used ( ты знал ) ? it's english form is in present tense so i think it should be ( я хочу , чтобы ты знаешь ) . or maybe i am wrong ?

Hm, an unexpected question. Actually in such sentense "Я хочу, чтобы ты…" next verb is put in past tense. This is some examples:

Я хочу, чтобы ты сделал
Я хочу, чтобы ты мне помог
Я хочу, чтобы она ушла
Я хочу, чтобы он был здесь

All verbs are in past tense, but now I don't exactly know whether it is such rule and which. I will try to think.

I think maybe it is the Russian subjunctive mood. For example, "I wish he wasn't gone" is talking about the present tense but uses a past tense verb.

Чтобы always requires subjunctive form (that is actually past form) becuase of "-бы" particle, which is the particle of subjunctive mood.

Why did not you explain that in old/British English in subjunctive mood the verb "were" was used with any form of noun?
Whereas, in American/modern English "was" is used perfectly well with singulars?[/img]
