    так как, потому что
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

Just "for" will do here. Or since. Or "forasmuch" it depends on the style.

Ибо translates as 'for' (as in, I was wearing a thick coat, for it was cold).

It is formal, and a bit archaic, just as it is (in this meaning) in English, viz. the old proverb or whatever it is, For want of a nail a horse was lost....

    I agree.

Nevertheless, there is something in the nature of the word "ИБО" which might be worthy to be discussed here.

"ИБО" is actually a compound word, "И" + "БО".

The meaning is charged on the second part "БО", the first part "И" being just a placeholder. In old Slavonic, as in some modern Slavonic languages (Polish, e.g.), "БО" is an enclytic form that means it should have the second position in the phrase. Thus, the initial "И" is to ensure the second position of "БО".

"Поскольку знания - сила." (conversational style)

"Ибо знания - сила." (archaic style)

"Знания бо сила суть." (very archaic style, not admissible anymore in Russian)

В Белоруссии БО употребляется часто, в том числе и в начале слова. Как бы укороченная форма ИБО.

Бо я ему про это сказала
