    Rosetta Stone (Russian) 3.2

Does anyone think its a useful tool to learn Russian. I live in an area where no one teaches it and the closest class is about an hour (or more) away..so I'm stuck to try and learn it on my own. Also, any ideas on any other ways to teach myself effectively?

Hello Runnerdude and welcome to the forum. I think we are in the same boat as far as learning Russian is concerned.
Yes, I think Rosetta Stone is an excellent tool to learn a language. However, nothing beats this forum for learning Russian.
If you go through the various topics here, I'm sure you'll find more than enough info to keep you happy.

thanks tohca, I appreciate your welcome and the information. I have a few more questions though...

How long have you been studying on your own? And what would you say is the first thing I should do as far as getting started teaching myself? Any particular thing I should learn before the other?

If you look at the date of my joining this forum, that's about how long I've trying. The first few years were not really serious, just got more serious this year.
I'm not sure if I am the right person to advise you that as I'm still at the beginner stage (maybe intermediate beginner, if the other forumers allow me to say so ). There are really very good gurus here, and I hope they'll post some sagely comments in this thread. There are also very good threads over at the Getting Started Section of this forum. I suggest you go through that.
