Actually, you're right; she does kind of remind me of Kylie Minogue now that you mention it. I think she used to be in the big group VIA GRA and is now a solo performer. But with that said, this song is г*вно. I also hate the fact that these sorts of videos always attract posts like "OMFG SHEEE ISSS HOTTTT. I LOVE RUSSIA." Когда я читаю эти посты, меня тошнит...
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.
В "Блестящих" она была.I think she used to be in the big group VIA GRA
Darn, why are you all so crazy about her? She's an ordinary girl/singer, and far not beautiful. Hot? You make me laugh. I can't understand all the fuss about her. EVERYWHERE!

It's PR, and generally the need of the audience to have their own sex-symbol. Movies with her also adds to her popularity.
Personally I don't like pop culture, but I have to admit that she works hard that I respect. I don't think that such music as Via-Gra or Blestyashie can be related to the concept the word "art" implies but many people think that if you sing, you have to sing at least like Monserat Cabalie or Frank Sinatra.
There is a Russian word скоморох - a person who performed before a simple audience at fairs (a pop idol we say today). It's a sweat-taking and ungrateful job. I devised a simple ranking system of my own to measure the 'level' of a pop singers like her. It's very simple - the more years you're famous - the harder you work. Popularity is like a whore - today she likes you, tomorrow - she won't. It takes a great deal of efforts and sweat to remain popular as years go by. Many performers become popular and forgotten in a matter of one year.
She works hard, she sings, she's popular, she she is a fine looking woman (maybe not the beauty queen but let's be honest - she is attractive even though she's not a young girl anymore). I don't like her songs but I respect her and her efforts. (My wife and her are distantly acquainted and as far as I know - her life cannot be called sweet at all).
Send me a PM if you need me.
She doesn't work hard. She doesn't work at all. Look at non-pop bands, look how they work to release their albums, how they perform their shows. And I assure you, it's much more difficult to be a symphonic metal band, for example, than to be a pop singer. Compare the music, simple moronic excuses for melody and voice on one side and good deep decent music and vocal on the other.I don't like her songs but I respect her and her efforts.
Look at Britney Spears, she's the worst attempt ever to become a singer.

It's a market. Consumers WANT to listen stupid texts and light melodies. It's a proven fact!
And you're wrong saying that pop singers don't work hard. If they don't, they will be forgotten in a matter of a few months. A metallic band may rehearse for some time and that's all.
Pop singer has to move here and there, speak with journalists (a very tiring procedure), attend photo-sessions (you may lose a few kg's in the course of a single one), record albums (you have to publish them 2-3 per year to remain in stream - try to record 1 for yourself if you think that this is easy), he or she must look sexy and attractive (try to attend a gym 3-4 times a week), make public appearances, then perform at clubs (several times per months).
They have no free time at all, they're tired and emotionally exhausted. Every grub-street journalist tends to look into your bed and your private life and then publish some crap in his yellow paper.
And compare this to a metallic band - beer, 1 concert per 6 months and some repetitions.
And about the word singer - Monserat Cabalie is a singer, Luciano Pavarotti is a singer, but pop-idols are just performers (their task is to amuse the audience - it's their job and they do their job well).
Send me a PM if you need me.
I'm not amused even a litthe bit with their so-called "performances". If we just go to Zhanna and show her Nightwish, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Thunderstone, The Devil Wears Prada, Tristania, Within Temptation.
She would be ashamed. Doesn't she really understand she makes cr@p?
-- Да? Коту Ваське, бл##?

Exactly! Because she is not capable of her main task: producing good music.Pop singer has to move here and there, speak with journalists (a very tiring procedure), attend photo-sessions (you may lose a few kg's in the course of a single one), record albums (you have to publish them 2-3 per year to remain in stream - try to record 1 for yourself if you think that this is easy), he or she must look sexy and attractive (try to attend a gym 3-4 times a week), make public appearances, then perform at clubs (several times per months).

She understands that perfectly. But that doesn't matter in the slightest.
Pop culture produces a product that will be consumed by the people. There had been some very serious marketing research. Pop performers sing songs that are none of their own making and composing. They don't have any choice in selecting the repertoire. They sing what their producers tell them to sing. Producers are interested in profits so they pick only those products that can be sold to maximum number of people.
I say again - it's a mass consumption market. You may blame the Chinese for selling cr@p but you can't deny that their cr@p sells good and the profits out of sales are the proof to that. You can't blame a pop singer for singing cr@p. For one thing - they don't have any choice and have to obey the rules of the market, for another one - people buy their cr@p and are ready to pay more. It's very simple - if your cr@p sells - you're a good "singer", if it doesn't - you're a looser.

It's not her task. Her task is to bring profits to her producer and make some money for herself. Don't mix high art and pop market. And again - she don't have any choice. She sings what she is told to sing.Originally Posted by Vincent Tailors

I concur here. Although I like some of her songs but I don't like them in the same way as I do songs written by such world famous rock bands as Queen, Pink Floyd, Eagles etc. I hasten to add that I like her songs only in particular situations like when driving a car. When driving a car, I hardly ever have much time to delve into what I'm listening to, so songs like "La-la-la" make driving less boring. I also hasten to add that I listen to music like that of Friske only if it is broadcast on the radio. I never download such music off the web.Originally Posted by Vincent Tailors

That's what I don't quite like about pop music. Basically, they're forced to sing what they're told to sing. The majority of world famous bands have hardly ever asked a producer to compose songs for them. Who wrote "Yesterday", "Angie", "Hotel California" and hundreds if not thousands, of other great songs? As far as I'm aware, virtually all of them were written by the musicians themselves.Originally Posted by Ramil

Yeah, but those times are gone forever. Some things will be composed, of course, but only few people will know about it. Mass culture will consume us all.

It's business baby, and tits sell. Noone is forcing you to listen (well I rushed to turn the sound off 2 seconds into the video), and I would certainly like to pay for her singing classes etc, but I don't have that kind of money.
BOY I LOVE RUSSIA
I've got a TV, and I'm not afraid to use it
Nevertheless, I still do not abandon the hope of succeding in listening to what I like rather than to what the music industry will try to make me buy.Originally Posted by Ramil

I am really not sure why you guys keep saying "the music". She is a performer/entertainer, she is not a singer. You might as well call her a dancer.Originally Posted by ReDSanchous

You're missing the point. Why should you point your hopes on the mass pop culture. It is hopeless. You will always be listening to school love stories. Mass culture won't change. It's business and as long as people don't change (and they have remained unchanged for several thousand years already) producers will keep offering us sexy girls singing about misfortunes of love.
Tha doesn't mean that there is no good music. There is. There are many talented singers, performers, actors, dancers etc. The fact that MTV doesn't show them doesn't mean they are all extinct. You can listen to them. It's like public catering - you can listen to MTV (or eat that awful stuff in McDonalds - fast, cheap and you're not hungry anymore) or you can listen to some talented musician (or visit a good restaurant - expensive but the food is quite delicious and tasty).
Don't consume that cr@p and you'll be fine. Just turn off the radio or the TV if you feel that you're about to be fed with cr@p.
Thanks. That's exactly what I'm trying to say here. It's not a music It's a chewing gum for your brains. You don't usually expect a painter who paints a wall to create another Gioconda, do you. But as a painter he might do his job quite well and you will respect him for that. Or you can buy pants made in China or jeans by Versace. There is a difference, but this world can house both.Originally Posted by adoc

She sings, therefore is a singer, (Edited. L.). She may not be a particularly good singer, and she may lip-sync a lot, and she might not be what you think is 'credible', but she is still a singer.Originally Posted by adoc

Yes Zhanna and VIA Gra and Blestyashchiye, and the like are just pretty girls who get their cleavage out and dance a bit to meaningless pop ditties. But at least the music is fun; and these stars are in no illusion that they are proper musicians. I'd rather listen to VIA Gra and feel happy than listen to Nightwish while cutting my arms. Life for many, if not most Russians is difficult (financially, health-wise, etc.). Happy, colourful crap TV and the music they show on it (e,g, Subbotnii vecher) keeps the suicide rate down, to putit bluntly.
