Hi everyone! This is an awesome forum!
Ok I have a question, my girlfriend lives in Kremenchug, Ukraine. She recently told me she is a teacher at a local "Academy". So I took that seriously. But then she told me she teaches Food Technology - well in USA when I hear Food Technology I equate that with teaching courses at a Trade School on fast food preparation, to help someone start work at McDonalds or Pizza Hut etc.
Trade schools train various trades - for quick entry - like Electrician, Plumber, Office Work, Fitness & Nutrition. They are designed to teach entry level skills, so people can go straight to work.
But this weekend, I realized she must be teaching at a higher level, because she is just returning from a pretty advanced week-long conference where she had to speak and give reports, and go to many classes. So I'm thinking she is a college professor now, until she told me her monthly salary is $40.00. My jaw dropped! But the low salary confused me even more.
If she is a professor shouldn't she be teaching at a higher level like a university? So my question is, in Ukraine what indicates an Academy versus a University? And what level of education do you need to teach at a Ukraine Academy?
Thanks so much for your time, sorry for the long post. I didn't know how else to ask the question. : )
