I want to be US citizen too...
What's the procedure for the citizenship?
I'll have to ask her, to be honest, I don't know... Her family won a greencard lottery 6 years ago, and have been here for 5 years now, and were just recently able to become citizens. Of course, none of them spoke a word of English when they first got here, so that's probably the reason it took so long, they had to learn and pass the test first. But one of the most important parts is that Bulgarians can maintain dual citizenship with the USA, while I know Russians can't, can Serbians???
-Fantom
Well, language is not a problem. It is a rule - you have to live in this country at least 5 continious years after getting a green card to become a citizen. I am going through the same process now. And WOW we also won a green card in a lottery!
:)
Anyways - congratulations, Fantom! for you girlfriend
Where are you from originally, CTPEKO3A? Not Russia, I assume, if you won a greencard lottery...?
-Fantom
Russians are eligible too as far as I know.
Oh.......... be carefull! Those numbskulls down at the INS make a lot of stupid mistakes. They insinsist that I was formerly a French citizen and have so written upon my natualiztion papers. I have long since given up arguing with them. We all know that I am not French but an Aussie! Perhaps it is because I am such a good lover ..and ze women.....ze all love me! ........NOT!
Oh, whoops... I asked my Russian friends about it, and they didn't think anything like that existed for Russians, since they immigrate to the USA more than the smaller countries in Eastern Europe...Quote:

I also have a friend who won a lottery.
So. Let me get this right. The USA... the greatest country in the world, with the most immigrants... has devised a master plan of .... a LOTERRY?
So you have 5,000 imagrants and instead of interviewing them, giving them tests, deciding which ones are good charachters and which ones arnt... you just choose them at random? What kind of BS is that.
PS fantom u look like this guy
PPS i couldnt find a picutre of him with bleached blonde hair, but if i could ud be EXACTLY the same.

It's really ridicilous that with lottery, but you can't complain....
Unfortunately... Serbs can have dual citizenship, I know a friend of mine has 2 citizenships. The Swiss one and the Serbian.
USA prefers businessmen, refugees and people with working visa. Only Canada and Australia have the so-called Independent visa programs which pick candidates based on their education and skills. I was easily taken in by both countries. Now my son, who probably can't speak Russian even at gunpoint, is Australian, and I am Canadian.
BTW I looked up, fantom, you are right, Russians are not eligible for the lottery in the next year, too many Russian and Chinese immigrants, enough is enough already.
As far as I know - they cancelled quota for Russians couple years ago.
And yes, I am originally from Russia - St. Petersburg to be exact.
I personally know two other people (even families) who won green cards in this lottery.
My opinion is, that it just called "lottery" but in reality they pick and choose whoever they want from those who applied. But again - it's just my personal opinion.
Good Lord, I look like a Jackass derelect? :lol:Quote:

They do not look the same at all. I mean, Fantom and him.
I like your smile, BTW. It looks very... hmmmm... insane, right!
As far as I know, and yep I've dealt with INS also (from the U.S. side, and expletives deleted)...Russians are eligible for the Lottery. Don't know about any specific quota limitations though.
Not any more. :(Quote:

Its take a long time, 5-7 years, you have to know how to speak and understand english, and they quiz you on certain happenings and facts about the US. But the test is easy peasy. My cousin took it, and said that they asked him 3 questions, he got them right and he was a citizen :DQuote:

If someone commits a crime thats illegal, they go to jail. If someone illegal comes into the United States why don't they go back to where they came from? ILLEGAL is the key word here hellllllooo??
No, not really. I have been through it and you don't really need to know English or the answer to any of those stupid questions. Almost all the INS staff conducting the "tests" were foreigners themselves.I think the test is a formality. Anyway most high school kids wouldn't even know the answer to most of those questions they ask. And they are simple. The whole thing is a bit of a joke really. It just really cracks me up that they insist that I am French.Quote:

If you come to america in a tunnel or under a truck or smuggled inside of a horse's ass, you should be catepulted back into the country you came from. You broke America's laws, you're taking money from Americans and have done nothing to contribute to society except make the poor immagrations agents work overtime trying to track you and your 19 children down.
If you break a law of immigration you should be punished accordingly.
I think it should be immediate deportation and or incapacitation so you are not pysichally able to come back here again.
