President of Ukraine is in the US, looking for handouts from Bush, and his wife is from a prominent area of Ukrainian citizens in Chicago. Where is this at? I plan on going up there soon, and I need to practice my language!

I believe there is a Ukrainian Credit Union on Chicago Avenue between Western Avenue and Oakley Avenue.. There is also the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church near the corner of Rice Street and Leavitt Street. This area is just to the northwest of the I-90 and I-290 intersection next to the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Hmm, I never knew Chicago had a significant Ukranian population. We have so many Polish that the other Slavs sometimes get lost in the crowd. Chicago is the city with the second highest Polish population in the world. I don't know if that is just something Chicagoans like to tell eachother, or if it's known elsewhere too. It's kind of frustrating sometimes, though (just in a silly way). I'll be in line somewhere, or at a resturant, and hear some Slavic-sounding words from nearby. I'll try to eavesdrop to see if I can understand any of it, but it always ends up being Polish, so not much help to me!
my political science teacher was just talking about the huge population up there, especially since Yushchenko's wife was born there. But she did leave fourteen years ago, so it could have deminished since then.
Speaking as a dislocated Chicagoan, I always heard that Chicago was the second-largest Polish city, next to Warszawa.
We already had this conversation a while back. There are about 300,000 Russian speaking people in the Chicago area.Originally Posted by zach smith
