    Ukrainian election results

    Most exit polls suggest:

    Партія регіонів (Янукович) - 30%
    Блок Юлії Тимошенко - 23%
    Наша Україна (Ющенко) - 15%

But I've just seen one released about 15 mintues ago which seems to suggest the Tymoshenko Blok has come first.

Either way, 3rd place is really bad for Nasha Ukrayina.

    According to this:
    http://www.itar-tass.com/eng/level2.htm ... &PageNum=0
    it's opend up a bit for PotR/Yanukovich:
    Regions/Yanukovich: 33.28%
    Tymoshenko: 22.72%
    Nasha Ukraina/Yushchenko: 13.53 %

So yeah, it sucks to be Yushchenko right about now.

Still just about 5% of voting papers are processed, so it means nothing. The final result can change drastically in any way depending on what regions papers were processed first. If it were western or central ones we may expect the better results for Party of Regions since almost all their followers live in eastern and southern Ukraine, and vice versa.

Good point. The figures I posted were "exit polls" though, so they should theoretically be fairly accurate.

The official result was supposed to have been announced already I think.

The latest poll I've seen has Regions 1% above ByuT

So that's saying after 21.4% of the votes have been counted:

    Regions - 25.98%
    BYuT - 23.56%
    Our Ukraine - 17.18%

I'm very surprised at how well Tymoshenko is doing.

I've read that BYuT, Our Ukraine and another one are gonna form a new coallition to form an "Orange majority".

I think we should make a new party and name it "Ukraine is ours, not yours".

I told you, she's the one with a lot of surprises up her sleeve

It all depends on NSNU (Our Ukrane) now... although imo it doesn't really matter who forms it. Well, it does, but either combination has its' good and bad sides, and we don't know in advance how it'll play out... But most likely you are going to be right and it'll be NSNU/BJuT/SPU...

What I wonder is how in that case Putin is going to explain to his population that those poor ukrainians, who were oh so disappointed in the "revolution", elected the same people again

    Disappointed? Really?
A person "disappointed in the 'revolution'" is a person who _both_ voted for Yuschenko in '04 _and_ now believes that we'd have been better off electing Yanukovych. There is (almost) no such people.
You can't really get disappointed in something you didn't like in the first place

It appears Putin is an important political figure in the elections in Ukraine just like Bush in Canada.
I've got a TV, and I'm not afraid to use it
