    A downloadable English-Russian dictionary.

    Hi guys,

There is a new (and free) English-Russian online dictionary available to download for Windows XP. Its based on the Mueller one I think, but the is nice and easy to use.

I thought many people might find it useful, as its much quicker than looking up a paper dictionary.

    You can download it here...

    Regards,
    Atreides

Lingvo Online is the best dic I have ever seen.

    http://lingvo.yandex.ru

And it's available in offline version, but for money...
The offline one is much more convenient. And it seems to have more words than its online brother.

Thanks, I'm downloading the trail of Lingvo now. (A whopping 129MB)

Not sure I will be able to justify the price tag, when I already have the free one above. (Although the one mentioned above only works from English to Russian). But if you say it's the best I will give it a try.

Also don't forget to download the free supplemental dictionaries, which cover areas of law, grammar, computer, science, etc. all free. I use Lingvo every day.

Got the Lingvo one up and running, I will give it a try over the next 30 days. It definatly seems to have quite alot of words, although perhaps with my level of Russian I don't need them all yet. If I was cashed up, Id buy it now, but sadly im not.

    Thanks for the advice.

i dont like the offline version of lingvo, some of the translations are really bad, or off, especially slang or swearing. i prefer the oxford dictionary. although, lingvo's technical tranlations are good and it is convenient and quick.

    Ah, here's our doubting Thomas!
You still don't believe in the existence of flaws in Lingvo, do you?
As I told you, start using English explanatory dictionaries and you'll see the flaws. Believe me, they exist.

But I don't feel like digging out proof
Please correct my mistakes if you can, especially article usage.

well ok, the word шишка. some of the translations were accurate (big shot etc) but then there were some quite amusing translations which i had never heard, moreover they just sounded funny.
its still feel its a good reference tho
