Thread: Summer programmes in Russia

Hello.

I live in Italy and I'm studying Russian language in University. This summer I would like to spend about one month in Russia in order to improve my language skills (that at the moment are very basic).

I've looked through many web-sites but
1 - they all have programmes that look quite expensive
2 - if I had a chance I would prefer going to a smaller city than Moscow or St.Petersburg - I believe that I can go and visit them as a tourist anytime.
3 - I don't know how much I can trust a web-site and I'd rather ask someone who has done this experience before.

So I'm really looking for suggestions about this, in particular if someone has been studying one summer in Russia (and living in a host-family) and is willing to share their experience and tips.

Hey! I'm glad to see I'm not the only Italian here

I found this website that seemed very interesting to me...but I don't know whether I can trust them because they're a Swedish Institute with no contacts in Italy. Anyway here it is (hm...I don't know if I'm allowed to post links on this site. If I can't, please delete this post!)

That Novgorod school seems very expensive - $2500 for two weeks study+accommodation. Try this one in Moscow:

I went there for a one-month term, individual study, in 2003 and was pretty happy with them. They have group courses too, and they have better prices.

PS just checked out the photo section on their site and I see that they have photos of me: one with a group standing in front of Tolstoy's house in Tula and another standing alone in front of a fountain at ВДНХ.

I would pay about €2000 for 5 weeks in N.Novgorod!

Thank you for the link. Even though I was trying to avoid the capital city, I'll check it ot, every suggestion is useful!

If you study Russian at univeristy perhaps your university will pay part of the cost?
