Year abroad...? not all Universities offer such a thing, I don't think. The optional language Russian unit in the second year of my course doesn't offer any trips, I'd just get 10 credit points for it. Infact I don't think the main course offers one either.

Russian as an alternative to french... the word different is putting it lightly and that includes any trips.
Please correct any Russian language mistakes I make.

all the guys from leeds uni in the Russian for forigners faculty speak disgraceful russian. i have a romanian friend who has been learning russian 6 months and he speaks better russian the english girl in my class (she's been learning 6 years). sadly she's not the only case. moral of story? study on your own and sit exams seperatly, you'll learn a hell of lot more and make the most of your time

"Moral", not "morale", for the benefit of Russians reading that .

The biggest centre for Russian and East European studies in the UK is the School of Slavonic and East European Stuides (SSEES), which is part of University College London. I can't really comment on the place since I don't go there, but I know it is housed in Senate House, which was inspiration for the ministry buildings in the book 1984.

I know 2 guys from Cambridge who were in my Uni for a practice program. They spoke fluent Russian at a very good level. Both studied about 2-3 years before coming here.
