So, this news even made it to Russia! I never met Irwin but he lived only a few miles from where I was living in Queensland only a month ago. He has a wildlife sanctuary there. Actually my sister met his wife once and they had a long chat about Oregon USA where they both used to live.

I always wondered when and if Irwin would himself killed like this. He took way too many chances with his life.

So, is this really news in Russia??

It's news for me personally. I liked to watch his shows on Discovery. Of course it was clear that with such a lifestyle it was unlikely for him to die of natural causes but's it's anyway sad that he's gone.
I believe he wasn't widely known in Russia because one could see him here only via satellite or calbe TV. Anyway the news about his death is on top of yandex.ru start page.

We used to watch his shows at the Animal Planet channel. He was really brave to deal with deadly poisonous snakes and other critters.

    Bloody Hell!
I watched his shows too - they have been shown at the local TV - The Culture Channal.
I saw the report about him today in the morning by BBC World and didn't realize it was about his death! Very sad news indeed.
    No, that's just horrible!
    Я так думаю.

Видно же было, что это перебор елы-палы. Зачем так было рисковать.

Well, I never was anxious. It seemed so easy when he did all these dangerous things with a smile and witty commets. The danger even doesn't seem danger any more...
His death is really a big loss.
I'm sure he was wide known in Russia. At least he's wide known in Ukraine. His program is on local channels every day and Animal Planet is very popular too. All local forum discuss this mournful event today.

Yes, it always seemed he was in control of things, joking and looking confident. Now it has turned out he wasn't... Shame.
But to be honest, he was looking for it, playing with fire.

There is another Australian wildlife personality, less famous though. I don't know his name. He has a beard, looks somewhat Aboriginal, and walks barefooted. Maybe he will have better luck.
Please correct my mistakes if you can, especially article usage.

Didn't he have a little kid too? I remember the news a while back about him putting his kid in the mouth of a crocodile...

We were wrong to jump to conclusions about him this time.

The story is (so far) that he was not playing aroung with stingrays at all. He was actually making a documentary about sharks! Apparently he was stung by a stingray inadvertently while diving. The 9 inch spike on the stingray 's tail went right into his chest near or in his heart. He was seen pulling the spike out himself.

"It was extraordinarily bad luck," said Shaun Collin, a University of Queensland marine neuroscientist. "It's not easy to get spined by a stingray, and to be killed by one is very rare."

    3 things.

    1) Its not like he was being careless and poking a stingray with stick when it attacked in self defense and killed him. He was swimming in the ocean when the animal, Buried under the sand, probably mistaked him for a preditor, and struck.

    2) he didnt put his own child into the mouth of a crocodile, he held it above the crocodile, to show how well he can actually read the animals.

    3) Yes he has two kids A boy and a girl, I think (or maybe 2 girls).

And yea its pretty sad, I've followed Steve Irwin off and on for over 10 years... He was a great guy.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!

I was surprised to learn that he wasn't such a daredevil after all. The guy got only one serious injury during his career. He actually knew what he was doing, and this freak accident was an extremly bad luck. I am really, really sorry.
