    Hello from Germany

    Hello and привет!

My name is Robin and I am from Germany. I have been learning Russian on my own since last November. I am fluent in my native German, obviously, and in English, and I have a master's degree (or rather the German equivalent Magister) in the literature and linguistics of both languages. I'm learning Russian because it's fun.

I hope to add this forum and the main site to my learning tools. In exchange for some help with Russian I can offer help in learning English and German.

    Robin

    Привет!

I've been learning German for 5 years at the uni with almost no result. This is mostly because I kept myself focused on studying English. Once, sitting at work I had a call from Germany: the guy at the other end had poor English, so he tried hard to bring something home to me in German, while I tried to say him something in English... Eventually the conversation eneded up with us both laughing.

No, of course it's not. I live in Remscheid, Northrhine-Westphalia, that's 40 km north-east of Cologne.

    That's great!
Heh, now that I'm reading that again, the idea when writing that was not to brag but to imply qualification for answering questions about both German and English...

Hello! Excuse me for breaking into the conversation. Jack, if you don't mind I'll correct you:
Доброго времени суток! Извините, что вмешиваюсь. Джек, если не возражаете, я поправлю:

Here "пожаловать на форум" means "go to", "come to", "welcome to". "На форуме" means "on the forum". I don't know is whether it correct to say in English, "Welcome on the forum", but in Russian it sounds strange.

    Good luck! Удачи!
Please correct any mistake you see in my message. Thank you in advance!
Очень прошу исправлять любые мои ошибки (и на русском тоже). Заранее спасибо!

You're right; the translation of what I said into English sounds strange. I'll remember it should be the locative next time . Thanks.

It should be the accusative. Добро пожаловать - куда? - на форум.
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
