While i was in russia, i would occasionally turn on the tv to the 18 channels that i had. I was so surprised to see pornography on at 9 oclock at night! I knew that russians had this more, but i thought it was on later at night! What about little kids? They just turn on the tv and there is naked women?

So my question is... why is the culture like this? What makes the morals of one side of the world loose when in the US, it is illegal to show any nudity unless you pay for it?

Although im not perverted, i have to say the funniest show i saw was something like candid camera. It was so weird... they would have women undress at a store or something and see the reactions of the men watching... and at the end would say "oh the joke is on you!!" (but not really.. they got a free peep show...) Anyone know this show?!

this is kind of sad...

for one... women in russia shouldnt have to prostitute themselves and be naked on tv to get attention (or anywhere for that matter...)

and two, it shouldnt be so easy for kids to turn on the tv and see this crap!

I know i sound like a parent... but i just dont like it

A naked woman on screen doesn't automatically mean that this is pornography. And there's nothing wrong with children seeing naked bodies (of a woman or a man) if it's beautiful and not vulgar. I find the western moral theories a bit too conservative and prudish. And there won't be any of that on any broadcasting channel (not on cable TV though). Some cable channels show pornography 24/7 so it's up to parents to control the access to cable TV channels for their children. All cable receivers have the lock option that will ban the access to certain channels.
As for the outfits young women wear - I find nothing wrong with it. A short skirt and low decolette doesn't automatically mean she's a prostitute, it's often quite the other way around. Again - what's wrong with a woman's desire to look beautiful? Real prostitutes don't wear so challenging clothes.

The TV in America has lots of dump TV programs which show the policemen who beat the innocent people, strike them by the electroshock for doing nothing, spray the teargas into their faces and even worse. I suspect that the American kids can frequently see this on the TV.

I believe that the average age of early pregnancies in Russia is higher than in America or Europe. Perhaps the number of the early pregnancies comparing with the number of citizents is lower too.

The simple porno is not the worst thing which can be seen on the Russian TV.
And eventually sex is something everyone have to think about since he\she grew up enough. The TV is the most poor sourse of the information of the sexual character. Every Russian supermarket or a newspaper shop has a display with several magazines of sexual content. Any kid can take them and satisfy their natural curiosity.

You must not be astonished so much about the TV.

I was a kid and I saw my first pornographic movie when I was 8 years old (I stole a VHS from my parents). There was nothing special and so far I am not a sexual maniac. Now, kids have the internet so the TV stopped being the only source of such a content.

Moreover, I find violence scenes shown on TV (in the news, for example) or even cartoons (when some personage hits the other one with a big hammer on the head or kicks someone) damage children's minds far worse than it's done by some naked girl.

I've seen the most ridiculous discussion about Russian film "Vor", where some people were indignant and concerned that the boy, who played the main character, was naked (it was a scene in the public bath). "OMG! How terrible!", "It's unfair for the boy!".. Duh!

And I doubt very much you've seen real pornography on non-paid channel so early at night. Most likely it was some movie with a bedroom scene, am I right?

What abut the kids I'm more concerned about them watching these braindamaging teletubies than peeking accidentaly at the naked body.

Feminism is evil!

Man and woman are created different for a purpose. They're like two parts of the whole thing - they add each other up. I'm not speaking about equal rights (which are a good thing), I'm speaking about feminists' attitude towards men which I find overly (unreasonably even) aggressive. Aggressiveness is a domain of men. Tenderness is a domain of women. Men simply won't take any feminist as a human, it's something alien and unnatural. Feminists of course say they don't care, but I think there are a lot of complexes under the mask of any feminist which they hide this way.

Returning to the topic: if a woman wants to be attractive, wants to be admired (or even be desired) by men - it's a natural instinct, a desire which shouldn't be suppressed or condemned. Men who think that sexually appealing dress is a sign of a prostitute should be pitied IMO.

Wait, but it is the Italian beaches where it's ordinary to see the topless women, while in Russia there is still a hard prejudices against the women who take the sun without their bras where other's children can observe them. Russian mentality in most cases reveal the stronger prjudice to the naked flesh.

Я, конечно, не знаю, что он там увидел, но вообще-то это правда - по некоторым каналам (то ли ДТВ, то ли СТС, то ли ТНТ...) бывает, что довольно рано вечером показывают какие-то порно-ролики. Переключала, натыкалась. Время не засекала, но действительно было довольно рано для этого дела.

Да не могло быть там порно-роликов. Между прочим, за это лицензию на телевещание отбирают. Максимум - мягкая эротика, а то и вовсе - полуобнаженные женщины (где все приличия соблюдены). И скорее всего это была реклама "секса по телефону" (кстати, основным потребителем такого рода услуг являются подростки).

Probably i know what program it is. "Голые и смешные" on the TNT tv channel. Isn't it?

А с каких пор DTV/Viasat стали эфирными каналами?

Не знаю, насколько они "эфирные" -- но у меня дома DTV ловится без труда. Никаких дополнительных денег за это удовольствие я не плачу: только за стандартную телеантенну...

Snap! It was an interesting insight into the lives of adults! But that was all it was and I managed to grow up sane and without mental problems.

I think a lot of parents censor 'bedroom scenes' more than violence because they have more of a problem explaning sex than violence to their kids, which is a shame.

Aaargh, Tellytubbies! My son likes them and I just cant watch as I cant hide the look of perplexed horror on my face. Allthough I did see a brilliant Utube of the Tellytubbie Nazis, mocking both, hilarious and much more watchable than the scary origional.

As for naked bodies, I've always taught my son to be proud of his in the hope he grows up like me, able to shun the pressure of fasion and be happy with the way he was born.
