    Chatting someone up in Russian

Okay, there is a girl in my school, who is Ukrainian, but speaks Russian (which I find odd, and must assume it has/had something to do with the USSR etc.), and she's very attractive. She can speak quite simple English, so if I find myself in a bit of a predicament, all is not lost. Any suggestions?

She might be the kind of Russian that absolutely hates foreigners and will hate you for butchering her language. For this reason even I'm not comfortable walking up to random strangers and starting a conversation in Russian.

For you it will inevitably go...
You: Привет! (Assume the best, you pronounce it perfectly...)
Her: Чёё????? ты руууский что-ли? откуда?
    You: Эээ

    Translation:
    You: Hello
Her: WHaaaaaaaa? You're Russian? Where are you from?
    You: Umm...

She knows who I am, since I've stared at her so much, and I also caught her attention looking at some websites in Russian. This is exciting! Thankfully I think she doesn't hate the English...

It looks like you may have to bump it up to level two stalking to get anywhere with her

Just kidding, if she already caught you looking at Russian websites, just ask her questions about them. Oh, and ask her what a Cheburashka is... Guaranteed points. (I think)

Many Ukrainians are native Russian speakers. Most of the east Ukraine speak nothing but Russian, so it AIN'T so strange that she speaks it.

What else do you know about her, maybe we can provide you with some inside info on her Russian hobbies!

Then I stand corrected. I was under the impression that it depended in which part of the country you resided...

And upon, further review, I'm glad to see that I corrupted your spelling of "Ukrainian" as well!

The bear looked at the car, and reflections of fire danced in his eyes. He knew what to do.

You have to click "Memberlist" at the top of the page; then pick "total posts" on the drop-down menu.
