Thread: Russian mob and NHL players?

I heard once that Russian NHL players are extorted by the mob. I was told that the mob tells the players to pay up or their family members in Russia will be killed. Anyone heard of this or is this just an urban legend?

To be serious, where big money are there is crime. Criminals seem to have this fascinating attraction to big money. I don't think that NHL players are the exclusion, so this is quite possible.

Sounds like something from a B-movie. I can believe that it happened (once or twice) in chaotic 90's, when the state collapsed, but I seriously doubt that it's a common practice.
