Thread: Left-handed musicians

I guess everyone is aware that Paul McCartney is a left-handed musician. Actually it does not ring any bells when a person uses his left and right hands in a mirrored fashion but to be a mirrored musician one need to have a mirrored instrument. Paul McCartney turned his guitar from left to right and reverted strings from top to bottom. In this way the most thin string which is at the bottom for a right-handed guitarist turned to be at the bottom for left-handed Paul McCartney also.

Today I've seen a street band with a left-handed accordeonist and his accordeon WAS NOT mirrored it was just turned over from left to right. In this way the actions of the left-handed accordeonist are not the mirrored versions of a right-handed one. He utilize his own unique technique for playing an acordeon.

I am left-handed but years ago decided to learn to play my guitar right-handed. I wish I hadn't.

Me too except I'm pretty happy with the choice. I write southpaw but play right-handed like the majority of players... and I'm glad I do because a) I can't imagine the headache of stringing everything backwards, b) I learned from whoever I could find to teach me so I would have been hard pressed to find a left-handed teacher )))

My guitar teacher in school was left handed but played accordion (loudly and boistrously all through guitar class whilst singing some slavic tunes I never knew about back then) right handed... I wouldn't know how to recognize mirrored or not though as pertains to the instrument)

I learned to play from the coolest guitar teacher ever, BTW... Он даже был стеклянный глаз)

You can't move your nondominant hand as fast as your dominant hand, but I'm working on it. I am encouraged by what I see as right-handed players doing fast moves with their left hands.
