Russian to Irish / Irish to Russian

    Hello,

I'm new to this site but I am looking for some help, I am looking for a website that can teach me firstly, the Russian Alphabet and how it is written and secondly somewhere where I could learn the very bascis of Russian (preferably a place that would have phonetics written beside the words...for ignorant people like me!!) In return I can guide people in the right direction for learning the Irish language , for exmaple http://www.gaeilge.ie is a good start for people learning Irish. If I could find a site for learners of Russian I would be very greatful,

Go raibh maith agaibh, (thank you),

McLove, I'm curious - what sort of "basics" are you referring to when you say you want a site with the basics? Are you interested in useful phrases with clear pronunciation and audio, or something like a "beginner's course" where you would actually learn a bit about how the language works?

    Ag foghlaim teanga na Rúise

Milanya thanks very much for that, I haven't used the link yet but as soon as I'm finished here I will use it.

    Pravit, a Chara,
Thanks for getting back to me aswell. The type of basics that I am looking for is like a beginners course, but I am looking for something I can do in my own time...preferably online. I would like to be able to go to Russia and be able to greet people in their own tongue, I would like to be able to ask for directions and be able to understand their responses.

I would eventually like to be fluent in the language, but I must crawl before I walk and walk before I run.

Another thing that interests me (and this may seem strange, but I find it helps people to learn) is childrens books. I would like to be able to read books in Russian, basic books. For example: The three bears (Now I feel like a complete child, but if anyone was to ask me what is the best method to learn Irish I would tell them that they must be able to drop themselves to the level of a child when learning a language, afterall this is how everyone learned their mother tongue to begin with.

Isn't MasterRussian the site you're looking for?
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

BTW, there is nice russian-language resource for everybody interested in Irish language and culture (http://www.irish.ru).

    2. If you send a letter from Éire to Northern Ireland, do you have to pay more than if you were sending it inside Éire. Does it cost less for someone to send a letter from NI to Éire thna it does from England to Éire. Also, do BT customers in NI pay less to phone people in Éire than I would as a BT customer in London?

I was just listening to http://www.iol.ie/~rnl102/fuaim.html
Gaelic sounds nice. It's funny how the people are stick little english bits in. I heard her say "you know". And I just love the number 4!
Heya =) Well to be honest Irish is taught pis$ poorly so I reckon- Baile means town, Abhaile means home..... why? I don't know.
Yea about sending letters to the North. I'm pretty sure it costs the same as sending one to the rest of the UK and off foreign but I isnae sure. I think with BT Northern Ireland there are deals on calling those in Éire so it is cheaper for them to call here than for you.... is..nae.. sure...
