i think i figured out the problem. I need to stray away from 5 dollar bottles and go to more expensive stuff. it is what one friend told me... can anyone back that up?

Yes! Get Русский стандарт! Its like 10 dollars a bottle (or something). Not very expensive but in Russia its like "grey goose" to us. Pretty damn fancy. The difference between grey goose and РС is that РС doesnt taste like poo poo.

there are all sorts of different, exotic russkie standarts too, dunno if you'll find them all outside of the motherland tho

if i buy a cell phone in russia, will it work in another country? I am moving to brasil next year... and it would help alot if i knew that a phone from russia would work there. I'm debating buying a phone for russia because i dont know how much ill use it....

First of all, it depends on mobile phone standard.
Sometimes there is a good discount on cellular phones, but you can use SIM cards of only one mobile network operator. Of course, there are people who unlock such phones, but it's illegal and you cannot be sure that the phone will be ok after it. So make sure you are not buying a locked phone.

No. All are unlocked, except those imported as 'locked' and are unlocked here. Even if you buy a phone with a contract in carrier's office it is unlocked.
