Is it just me or does russian chat not exist on the web. I can't find ANYTHING on yahoo, msn chat is dead, and well other than that I haven't a clue where to look. There's a gazillion chats for all the other regions. Why be so private.

Try Skype as well. There's a decent number of Russians on there and it's voice chat as well (it has an IM client, too). I've met a couple of great Russians, fluent in English, who are more than happy to help bumbling Westerners get ahold of the language.
You do have to "hunt down" contacts, but you can search through the entire catalog of Skype users and sort it by Country, Language or Screen Name.
I think it's http://www.skype.com but you can search for it. great service for traveller's, especially the voice stuff. You can call actual phone numbers for a nominal charge.

If you open Yahoo messenger, and click chat on the little toolbar at the top, you can click Regional, and then click User Rooms, and there is usually one called "Russkiy Chat International" or something along those lines. Thats the one I usually go to.
I go there sometimes too...but Yahoo is being a meany lately.

As for me, I like IRC chats, whey are more fast and comfortable, try irc.icq.com (actually in any IRC-client like mIRC or Miranda-IM where is built-in list of servers)...

I got on ICQ a couple weeks ago with the handle "BulgariansRHot" (because I was going to talk with my Bulgarian friend) and I have gotten like 20 messages in Russian since then... If you want to see something funny, you should see my attempt to hold a conversation in Russian!

what really pi**es me off is when you get those spamesque messages normally from a user like 884dhxgd4545 asking you to add them or invest money or something
Yeah, every day I go home, if I left ICQ on, (I don't really like live chat, so I never use it), I have like 10 messages saying
"I can't get you messages! Add me so I can get them!"
from a user like "8m@8m.com" or something like that. I wonder what the point of that is, it isn't even a link to advertising or anything.
