    Кавказское долголетие (Caucasian longevity)

This comes from another thread, but I wanted to hear what people think of this phenomenon.

E.g. the Caucasus people who claim to be EXTREMELY old.

I just read an article about an English man who is very old - 112 I think. In his case this is verifiable because births were registered by state officials.

But I remember reading on the back of Kefir packages (lol) that there are people in the Caucasus who become 150 years old.... etc. Apparently in Caucasus there are also graves of people who become 150 years old...

Does anybody have information about this?
Can the super-old Caucasians be trusted?

I think most of Western Europe don't trust them because the birth dates were not recorded (?) in a reliable way. However the people who doubt the claims may not be familiar with traditions, language etc of the Caucasus - they could be biased.

    Re: Кавказское долголетие (Caucasian longevity)

    Johanna,

I am not certain about 150 years old; however, I have mentioned my grandmother on another thread. She was born in what was then Austria and moved to New York when she was a little girl. She will be celebrating her 106th birthday this November. This past summer, I was able to find online the database which has the records of not only her birth, but her parent's marriage, their births, and other relatives vital records. This database confirmed the year she was born as 1903.

Nana lived alone up until she was 99 years old. She now lives with my dad and my stepmom. For her 101st birhtday, her wish was to go to Disney World for the first time. So a good portion of the immediate family all went to Florida and Nana even went on the Haunted Mansion ride!!! Up until she was 104, she was VERY active, even volunteering once a week in a hospital. Last year, the girls and I spent a month during summer vacation with her. She came out to the beach with us and still did many things. This past year she has declined and can no longer hear on her cell phone; however, she just got (with the help of my stepmom) a Facebook page! So, maybe now (with a little help) she can start communicating with everyone again.

Living this long is a blessing and a curse. She has lived to see her great grandchildren and so many things happen in this world (both good and bad). Yet, she has also outlived all of her friends and family. There is no one left from her era. When she looks back at photo albums, everyone she knew is gone. Even when she talks about adult friends that she had, they are all gone as well. She feels like a burden to all of us and misses her past life with her husband and old friends...yet... she still finds enough joy in life to go on every day.

Here is a photo of her from Disney at 101 years old! We all had shirts that said "101 Years of Nana" and her's said "101 Years of Me!" it is in the Disney font script.

I have nothing usefull to add to this thread but I just wanted to say: That's awesome, Rockzmom! I want to be like your Nana when I am old and grey. In fact, I always said I wanted a shiny red wheelchair so I could race with my grandchildren .

The Caucasian longevity? I Doubt. Many people became long-livers only under the passport. After war when documents have been lost at them asked when they were born. Also that these long-livers will tell, on and wrote.

    Why not...?
The article says that they had the birth certificate...!

The story about Rockzmom's granny is very cool too!

Particularly that she is so chirpy that she can enjoy a visit to Disneyland! Good idea about the shirt!
I have met somebody who was 100 but she was mostly just lying in bed listening to the radio and she was practically blind.
