O.J. Simpson...Do Russian know of him?

I wonder how many Russians are familiar with the trial(s) of O.J. Simpson; and what do they think of the verdict. Generally, most Americans view his trial as a travesty of justice and a general failure of the American justice system. Just today, his story is being revived, solely fpr for the purpose of publicity and money. What do y'all think?

Yeah, I've heard of him and about that murder, and even watched a couple of movies where he acted. But I was sure he went to jail...
So you tell he was found unguilty?

Anyway I don't think in Russia or anywhere in CIS much people were interested in that case.

yeah, where was a lot of this case on TV may be about 10 years ago. I can`t remember which TV-program it was, thought... News, Oprah, G.Springer or something...
The bear looked at the car, and reflections of fire danced in his eyes. He knew what to do.

Yeah, the most of Americans think that he was guilty. He got away with murder... And now, he is back in the spotlight... I don't understand why they let that MF run free, and let him make money at the expense of his victims...
Well, I don't know what to say. I want to say thanks to the Academy, to Mama, to Papa and to my dog. I love you all.

Honestly, I'm not familiar with the trial of that dude. It's the first time I've heard his name.

I know him because he acted in one of my favorite american comedy movie - Naked Gun 1/2/3. I'd heard several years ago that he shooted his wife and her lover and about the trial, but wasn't so interested about that case. Such things happen almost every day, and why that can't happen with a football player or an actor or whoever he is?

I was a little surprised not to hear more responses. THe case of OJ was the most dramatic court trial in American history for a number of reasons, other than what I stated earlier as a travesty of justice and the judicial system.

Firstly: He did not shoot his wife and her boyfriend. But viciously stabbed them and nearly decapitated his wife. It was first of all a crime of jealousy and rage.

Secondly: It was a case about racial prejudice. OJ was set free because the jury of his peers were mostly African americans, who had no intention of indicting a black person for killing whites. This was "pay back" for all the illegal killings of blacks by whites. In legal terms, it was a situation named"jury nullifcation".

Thirdly: It was about "class systems". OJ was a rich, celebrity. Which means when you are rich and famous, you are entitled to more privilege in the justice system that those "not rich and famous"

And finally, it is about media and money. The media turned it into a huge money making adventure.

These are just some of the reasons why it was a still is a big story!

I was in US when the process had been going on. I watched TV, switched many channels and everywhere there was O.J.
I was happily unaware about who he was and why he was such a celebrity.
This abundance of O.J. frustrated me for some reason so I could never bring myself on actually ivestigating any deeper.
All I could gather that the whole nation was fascinated about some murder.
What is it about this case (among thousands of other crimes comitted daily) which could be so interesting?
Send me a PM if you need me.

Actually, I think they were stabbed to death (or maybe butchered would be the proper term).

The reason you didn't hear more responces is that most people in Russia don't know anything about US court cases (nor do they care about them). People get enough controversial news at home.

Yes they were "butchered." I simply corrected your word, "shooted"

Well, I REALLY can't believe that some double murder is the most dramatic case in US history. It's just boosted, imho.

He mentioned one of recent trials on "skinheads". They are only agressive to people, who looks non-european - caucasians, africans, asians... If you are not one of them you can feel safe. (These facts I took from mass-media). Frankly speaking, I never saw a skinhead in my life. I think this is just a media compain for some political reasons.
