Thread: And no eggs...

I am doing a useless project where I am collecting how you say "And no eggs..." in various languages. So far I have Russian English, and an attempt at German with French coming soon.

English: And no eggs...
Russian: А не яйца...
German: Und keine Eier...
Spanish: Y no huevos...
Swedish: Och inga

Correction: И нет яиц.
Also, capital "e" on Eier.

Y no huevos . . .

And no balls . . .

The problem is that your English sentence is ambiguous. What you have in German means "and no eggs(there are no eggs)." This is what I translated into Russian. What you have in Russian means something like "And no eggs(I don't want any eggs with that)."

I originaly had И не яйца, which a natve pointed out would sound better as "A не яйца". After changing that, I had someone who lived in Russia for six years point out that it is correct, so I'm not really sure if changing it would be a good idea.

First you should clarify what you mean with "and no eggs."

Er... Pretend you have a recipe and there are no eggs. And no eggs...

I still cannot think of a context in which that would be used. Most recipes that do not require a certain ingredient simply do not mention it.

Bahh that isn't the point. It's from a song, which if nesceary I will point out the lyircs for it.

Hooray!! lol, thanks pravit. I didn't think something as simple as "And no eggs" could possibly have so many meanings. Wow.

If anyone knows it in a symbol language (Chinese, Japenese, Korrean) could you perhaps just stick it in a picture. I don't know if those have a font, but if they do, size 60, Bold Arial.

@Pravit: I'm curious as to how you got "И нет яиц"; more specifficaly the last word. Яйцо is egg, so what ending does that take or what do you do to it to degrade it to яиц?

"Huevos" in Spanish can mean "balls" as well as "eggs"

Interesting that the same holds true with German "Eier"

And the same holds for Russian Яйца

"И нет яиц" is the correct translation. "А не яйца" means "(and) not eggs" (but something else), as in "Дай мне мясо, а не яйца" - "Give me meat, not eggs".

For that song I would suggest the following variants:
и(но) никаких яиц
но не яйца
но только не яйца

The Spanish is wrong I think. Its just a literal translation.
I'd Say
Y nada de heuvos.
