Thread: Need help transliterating Russian for America fiction

I'm an American writer and in this new book, I have a Russian character. Of course, he's smarter than the average bear and interesting to work into the story.

I need to talk with someone who can shape a couple lines of Russian dialogue that the Russian speaks to his American friend, a man he hasn't seen in years. Just standard guy-to-guy talk, maybe a cuss word or two. Both are ex-Special Forces, both are fluent in several languages, and both carry scars from Afghanistan. Things are about to blow up in their lives.

Would anyone be interested in helping me get this right?

I had the possibility to familiarize myself with Mr Clancy's work while playing the video game series Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. The writer creates the story for the series. What do I think of it? I am sure that it was intended to be a joke.

I'm tired of this "bear" style in Western papers. We don't write in our papers that Americans are "cowboys" and American jornalists put this "bears" here and there when speaking of Russia. I'm afraid that an ordinary American is still convinced that bears stroll along Moscow streets playing balalaikas and drinking vodka. It's hard to get rid of these stereotypes but I'm sure the book this fellow is going to write won't help to destroy this kind of stereotypes.

The phrase 'smarter than the average bear' is from an american cartoon and has absolutly nothing to do with russia or russians. Using this phrase on an international website is stupid considering most people won't get it but it's certainly not insulting.

The Splinter Cell series really has nothing to do with him; it's basically just a licensing thing to increase sales: there are lots of video games that involve killing people -- this is just a way to make your game stand out. Rainbow Six, though WAS based on one of his books, though still fairly loosely. The books (well the older ones any way -- the last couple he wrote sucked) are pretty fun reads, if they're not exactly the most intellectually stimulating (just think of them as good Hollywood action movies, but longer and more detailed).
