Thread: March Madness is here!

Okay, so if ya don't know what March Madness is it is all about College Basketball. Well over the weekend there was March Madness to the extreme in the game between Butler and Pittsburgh to decide who goes to the Sweet 16 (the top 16 teams in the NCAA tournament.)

Most of the videos have been taken down due to copyright but I have found ONE copy a little fuzzy so let me set it up for you:

Butler in Black has 68 points ... Pitt in White has 69 points
There is only 7.1 seconds on the clock

With 2.2 seconds left, Butler scores and is now in the lead by ONE point. They think they have won this game and so do all of their fans... but wait...

This is why the idea of this game was always a mystery for me. Why don't the players just stay at their home line and throw the ball into the another's team basket? Why do they need to run across the arena?

OOOH, I was a huge basketball fan about 15 years ago... I was half afraid there'd be a third foul.

But those guys earn sums of six figures. For such a salary they can try harder.

Even if they could throw from their base line, they couldn't throw very hard if they wanted to hit the basket. Which would give the other team time enough to catch the ball before it hits the basket. They would never get anywhere.

CoffeeCup, first off, these guys are college players and don't get paid. Maybe college scholarships... but not cash. Secondly, do you feel that way about all net sports? hockey, soccer.... even football?

Okay, the comment about salary was just a metaphor to the idea if there is a way which let you win the game, why don't have a hard practice specifically to play this specific way and win all over the time.

For example I found 5 excellent hiters who CAN hit the basket from the base line (the world is big enough to have 5 good hiters among 6 or 7 billion not so good hiters). Today my team plays with the world's dream team, who can't hit the basket as well as my 5 hit stars. The game starts the dream team got the ball approaches to our basket and got 2 points as easily as a piece of cake. While they are retarding back to their basket one of my super hiter hits their basket and got 3 points. The dream teams goes back to our basket with the ball and makes 2 points once again. And again my hiter makes 3 points. So every 2 points for the dream team comes to 3 points for my team. My team will win forever.

As for other net sports, hockey and football, the players of one team can occupy such positions that it becomes impossible to hit the net with a direct strike. So the players of another team must move the ball or puck to find a point from which there is open line to hit the net. But the basketball players can't fly like bees to close the net from far end hitting.
