You have to write an address in reverse order in modern style, like this:

    basurero, к идее

Это пример с официального сайта ФГУП "Почта России".
Индекс это то что пишется на штампе.

Thank You Both, everyone else gave me a headache (головная боль, Barron's Businessman's dictionary, I need to learn that word fleuently for the forums) TATY helped at first too.
I use the recipient's name and street name in Cyrillic (Russian), so if it gets mixed up by the postal worker, the next door neighbor can deliver it.

Indira, glad you learned a new term, "go Denny's" is similar, but different
I'm easily amused late at night...

Dimitri & TATY in a forum cage fight.... I put $100 on the winner...

I e-mailed some of my snail-mail recipients. and showed them the "correct" way... I was told "we always did it like XYZ, but that is correct" and "Don't confuse my mailman" "YOU GOT IT RIGHT!" (x4). Ben Franklin was a pretty smart man; he created a good postal system. If you don't believe me, look at a $100 bill.

My head is still swimming. "головная боль" is appartently correct as I haven't been flamed yet
