    yeah, i know, but flame means just "пламя", and flood-затопление...
    (я имел в виду, используют ли они эти слова в том же смысле что и у нас )

    You really think it's Russians who made up those English terms and then did loan-translations? :)
    Take a look at this dictionary - http://foldoc.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc/index.html.
    Wiki has a big article about "flame" as well - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming.

    Isn't it odd that although we are tought southern British English in Russia, words like flame are transliterated with эй - what is this, some uggly Yorkshire conspiracy?

    The actual Russian tradition is to write it as ей.
