I forgot to ask this ealier, but when we were in Vegas a few weeks ago, we went to Mandalay Bay and saw Красная площадь. There was the huge statue of Lenin out front, and it was missing its head. I assumed that maybe revolters took the head of the real statue in Moscow, but I couldn't find anything on it. What's up with the missing head??

According to vegas.com, the Red Square bar has Lenin's head encased in a block of ice in a walk in freezer reserved for the folks who want to buy the most expensive vodka the bar sells. I'm not sure if they drink the vodka in the freezer or get a tour after.
There is no statue of Lenin on Red Square in Moscow.
Oh, thanks, JB! I was wondering why I couldn't find anything about it, and have never heard anything about it before... I remember hearing that for some ridiculous price, you can rent a locker in the freezer and keep your vodka.
Now, does anyone know why the statue has bird poo on it? :? :D

I was in Red Square about two months ago and there was definitely no Lenin's statue at the time there. A lot of things might have changed in Red Square since I last was there. Perhaps, they've set up a monument to Lenin within these two months. Who knows? :lol:

I've seen my fair share of Lenin statues, but they all have interseting postures... this one looks a little strange? Is this a replica of the one that used to be in the Red Square?
Do you mean the statue in Fantom's pics? If so, I don't think it's a replica of the one that used to be in Red Square. As far as I'm aware, no statue of Lenin has ever been in Red Square. There are tons of them in Moscow, but not in that square.
I don't believe there ever was a statue of Lenin in the Red Square. A relic in the mausoleum for the communist religious rites, but not the statue.
It's probably one of those Vegas things where they try to put anything Russian they can in their Russian themed restaurant. Like at the Paris, there are French things that aren't really in Paris, I'd assume.
I wish I could have gone in, but it was a Sunday morning when we visited... I hear their bar is a sheet of ice so your drink stays uber-cold. Aah well, I guess I'm just going to have to keep drinking my drinks really fast! :D
I agree with Vincentz, this one kind of looks like they are using a "Neo from The Matrix" look... GO LENIN, GO!! YOU ARE THE ONE!!!! :lol:

In the books for children there used to be stupid little stories telling how kind Lenin had been. So my personal favorite was this skit:
Lenin's widow, Krupskaya was telling a class of Soviet schoolchildren what a kind man Lenin had been.
"One day ", she said, "he was standing outside his dacha shaving himself with a bowl of water and an open razor. A little boy came to watch him and asked him what he was doing. "I'm shaving, little boy", Lenin said.
"Why did that make Lenin a kind man?" asked one of the class.
"Don't you see", said Krupskaya, "he could have cut the little boy's throat but he didn't".

I'm now reading a book called "Nomenclatura" by Voslensky. Lenin is a very frequently used word there 8) It is hard for me to say in what light the author portrays Lenin in this book. It's a crying shame that there is no statue or at least a picture of Lenin in the book.
...Or maybe an advantage, isn't it? :)

Well, I remember our school notebooks. They always printed something on their covers. I have a notebook with a picture rendered on its cover that shows a monent of the storm of the Zimny Palace and two dates above 1917 - 1987. We used to write our own inscriptions on the cover. 1917 - There is already no vodka left.
1987 - The vodka is still absent.
I remember that was amusing. Maybe someone remebers it too.
