    An important poll!

I've heard that people from different countries see rainbow differently depending on the primary colors defined by the language. I want to check this out.

How many colors people in your country think there are in a rainbow. Pick the closest answer from the options given in the poll.

Everybody votes for seven. Either only Russians vote, or your theory is wrong.
May be the Japanese will see 6, since they have the same word for blue and green (does that mean that they don't discern the difference between these colors?)

Oh,comeon guys, it is black and white since I looked at it in the firt time! Everyone knows it has no colors at all!!
    _______

Just kidding. But anyway the colours are the parts of the famous spectrum. There are many tints made by mix of these colours. But are they the special colours really?

If true - I see at least nine colours - I include the lemon and the emerald tints which are evident between the yellow and green and green and blue colours. But there can be found other "colours" if I searched pretenciously.

That's the whole point. Depending on the words that define colors in a language, people may think differently (I've heard in some cultures there are up to 20 clearly distinguished colors in a rainbow and somewhere there are only 5 of them).

Here we have people from all parts of the world so I think it's best to ask here

In the UK children are taught a song with the colours of the rainbow in the chorus:
Red Yellow Pink Green Orange Purple Blue.
So as children these are the colours we assume to be in the rainbow. But, in my experience as full time end of rainbow chaser (one day that pot of gold will be mine!) what children are taught is now always entirely accurate.
This is wrong and teachers should get their facts right.
It's very damaging to a child to be dissappointed in this way.
Not thats it did me any harm..... really.....

Who on Earth would bother to count 20 distinct colors, when you can gloss over the 6 major ones? English has also a wide variety of colors.

in the font color menu, there are 14 alone!

Oh, allright, now we have another version - 6 there are! I should have added the option 6 in the poll.

let me guess, English speakers don't distinguish голубой and синий in the spectre. Of course there are names for them in English - cyan, sky-blue, dark-blue, ingido but there is only one blue in a rainbow.

And also - some people count only red, green and blue considering the other colors intermidiate and not 'pure'.

Walk into any UK decorating shop and you will be bombarded with thousands of different colours and their names. Some of them so silly it's worth going in just for a laugh.
So unless you manufacture paint or are a home designer, the English usually learn their primary, secondary colours and a few other names for the shade in between and leave it at that.

Even though I like the English spelling of colour more than American one, I still type color without u, for some reason (maybe, because it's color in all programming languages I know)

I think that violet and purple are the same colour. Therefore, there are really only 6.

I get that because allthough I'm english, I sometimes have to stop and remember if I need the u or not.

I have a question. Sorry if, in fact, it belongs to Silly Questions Topic.

Does a rainbow contain all possible colours?

I mean, if you mix, for example, red and violet you are not likely to get anything that belongs to a rainbow. Or are you?

Рамиль, Оля — постхантерша, а ты, получается, кто? Так называть темы обсуждений... Сорри за придирку. У меня был трудный день.

По теме: people in my country think about seven or so.

By definition of what a Rainbow is, then yes. It shows all the visible wavelengths of light.
