Thread: I want to learn Russian

Hi I would really like to learn a new language ...and I eather wanted French or Russian, and I picked Russian. I'm going to try to learn it independently...with the help of you. I was thinking first I would learn the alphabet first, and then numbers, and then grammar rules, and after that phrases, ect. Any tips?

Oh and am I missing anything here?

Wow! This looks like Old Slavic alphabet from 9-th century. I didn't know those letters are in unicode table.

French is 10 times easier than Russian, let me assure you. Don't bother with Russian unless you are completely serious. It's so difficult that you've got to really want to learn it if you are going to be successful.

If you are going to study Russian you need to buy (or download)

1) A school textbook for Russian which teaches you the alphabet and some basic vocabulary and conversational skills.
2) A "propisi" Russian handwriting exercise book (so you can learn to write in Russian)
3) Grammar and grammar exercise books.

How could you think that this is the Russian alphabet? It is hundred(s) of years old and not in use anymore. I hope you are serious and not having a laugh at people here who are genuinely trying to be helpful to learners.
Look up Cyrillic / Russian alphabet in Wikipedia and you'll find the modern Russian alphabet.

What happened to that quote from Olya that was in Zaya's autosignature? I think that's applicable here....
