Thread: Newspapers

When my son went to London recently, I asked him to get me a Russian newspaper. Which one, he asked! It's a good question. From a learner's point of view, which is the most interesting Russian newspaper? By interesting, I mean it's got lots of variety, cartoons (??) , sport, it's not all about the steel trade in Siberia or whatever. By the way, he forgot to get me a paper...of course. Children.... don't bother.
Is there a Russian equivalent of the New Scientist, or Punch (??) ?

For learners Аргументы и факты and Комсомольская правда are good. Also (worryingly) being the most popuar Russian papers they are easy to find in London.

They are probably the equivalent of the Sun or Mirror but seem to focus only on Russia and very much on celebrities.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of mark-up is there on the Russian papers in London?

Well in Russia a copy of Komsomolskaya is about 7 roubles I think, which is about

I've only seen Argumenty i fakty and the Komsomol'skaya in London. I once bought a paper quickly called Вести which upon closer inspection turned out to be Serbian.

It's not that hard to find 1,000 Russian speakers in London :P

As far as I know, there are up to 200 000 Russians in London.

There is also the free newspaper for Russian speakers in the UK called Пульс. Available by free subscription or from your local East European shop. www.pulse-uk.org.uk

Well, I was just wondering if there were any Russian newspapers with subtitles!
