    uhhhh...buying from frogs?

I don't smoke. But as far as getting cheap things in Russia...I know books and CDs are dirt cheap.

I am wondering, what are the customs like in Russia,
It doesn't matter in the slightest what Russian customs laws are like, it's not them that stop you bringing stuff into the UK, it's our own lot, and the rules are exactly the same coming into Blighty from Russia as from any other non-EU country (ie, 400 ciggies in total, I think).

Last time I bought cigarettes from a frog, it wasn't even real tobacco. I don't fall for that s--t anymore.

Even Russians swear that Russian "premium" brands (Marlboro, etc.) are lower quality than American cigarettes, no matter the brand. Camels are supposedly the most counterfeited but I've heard that as long as you're not an idiot and think you're getting genuine smokes for R6, you'll be fine. But yeah, cigarettes are now pushing $4/pack in the US, $5 in pub machines, and in two months I'll be buying a carton for under $10? OH HELL YEAH. I really need to quit smoking, but I don't think Russia will be the place for this.

And for the record, you can only bring 200 cigarettes into Russia. You may be able to bring 400 into UK or other European countries, but US is also 200.

"Fag" is short for "Faggot" which means "Homosexual" or "Gay" in America.

    Edit:
Chort, they sensored out fag*ot. That's not a obsene word.

Um, "fag" is short for cigarette in the UK.

And Frog is just a semi-derogatory for the French. I don't share the baseless hatred of France that most Americans do, in fact I dig them, but I still call them frogs occasionally. It's like calling an American a Yank, a Brit a Limey, a German a Kraut, etc, etc.

I've heard Americans call them "Ivans," "Russkies," even the occasional "Red Bastards." Only the worst sort of reactionary Republican idiots still have a Cold War mentality toward Russia and Russians, however. Then, of course, speaking of the women I believe they are roundly referred to as "Natashas."

And how about Russians speaking of Americans?

"Russkies" is the only nick-name for Russians that I have ever heard.

We were taught to hate "Ivan" in basic training. (9 years ago)
Whenever we were throwing a grenade at a target or shooting something, it was always at "Ivan" just like when my father was in Vietnam, the enemy was "Charlie".
I have heard "Russkies" quite a few times, and some people even still use "Commies", but I would never use that.

    I dont understand

    Privet Dudes

What was the hatred for Russians all about in the first place, I find them very warm and friendly people. When someone here talks about 'Charlie' I can tell you its not vietnam they are on about, but someting a little more whiter that comes in little plastic bags!

Ok, so maybe Russians were Communist years ago, but wasnt that their choice, I mean I always thought that American was all about freedom of choice and speech?

Personally I dont have any problem with any nationality, except French.............even they have there good points like cheap fags and booze, and a bloody good selection of cheese, but if you are planning on bringing some cheese into your country from France, my advice is to eat it quick because it stinks out the kitchen something cronic!

I think it would be great if the USA and Russia could do something together as a joint venture.

It wouldn't supprise me if Bush said "Hello my fellow Americans. Last night I had a tea party with God. He told me I should go make homies with Putin."

BTW does anyone remember the show "Thats my Bush"?

I remember seeing commercials about it, but never watched it...

I don't think Americans (in general) have hatred towards Russians. It was just because of the Cold War, the government tried to make us believe that the Russians were going to nuke us. That was a long time ago. I have a few Russian friends, and have nothing against any Russians, living either here or there. My dad was shot in Vietnam, and was the only person in his unit that survived, but he doesn't have anything against Vietnamese people. But some people are just like that. Same as some people still don't like people of different color / race.

I wonder if it's still syndicated... Did they basically make fun of the family the whole time? At my last company, we had the Bush's (George & Barbara) come speak (shudder!), so the guy that was on that show did a video for us, pretending to be Dubya, and thanking everyone for inviting his parents... He is very good!
