I wouldn't be so sure about that considering the number of mistakes in your essay posted here You should study harder if you wanna succeed.

I've been humbled today.

The topic was "свободное время", so I filled out how I've spent my life on a computer. I thought I did fine, until I realized that what filled a lined sheet of paper, didn't even fill half of the official contest papers! And I couldn't scratch it all out, it would be unprofessional.

Oh well, back to the books.

All the Russian essay contests I ever participated in were proctored by teachers and given in a lecture hall so we couldn't cheat. It was also a national thing, where gold medalists had their essays shipped off to the Pushkin Institute in Moscow, where they were rejudged in an international competition.
Personally, I got two gold medals, but it isn't the sort of competition I took seriously. (Because essays like yours also got gold medals)
