    English poetry

What meters are usually used in English poems and songs? Is English poetry tonic or syllabic or sylabo-tonic? What are these meters based on?

As far as I understand, classical English poetry is syllabo-tonic much like classical Russian one. But contemporary "high poetry" in English is mostly vers libre while syllabo-tonic meters are left for song lyrics and children verses.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?
