    DAR. What about other countries?

I learned about one interesting thing in American culture: DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
    http://www.dar.org/
This can only be claimed if a direct ascendant fought in the American Revolution with the rank of Major ( ??? or lieutenant???) or Higher. DAR is only Female. Most likely it is just for the rememberance of the wives, mothers, and daughters that lost men...
To be a DAR (Daughter of the American Revolution) is a very great honor in American culture.
DAR is only Female and I still do not get: is this status inherited only on male line or also on female line? Is here some privileges or it is only honour?

I am wondering what about other countries? Do you have something similar?
In Russia we have not something similar.

eh... DAR and other groups like it are not really anything more than a group of people who are proud of their ancestry... I doubt there are any special "passing down" rules(ie. male side or female side)--its probably more like "Show us records of this family member and connection to you, and you're in--yay!"

I've never heard of DAR, and don't know anyone that belongs to it... Myself and pretty much every male descendant I have was in the military.

DAR! A bunch of prudish and uppity women who are in need of a good spanking, I say!!

    Never hear about DAR.
I have heard about DAM, Mothers Against Dyslexia.

    FL,
Under "Eligibility" is the information you are looking for. Here-->http://www.dar.org/natsociety/conten...=145&hd=n&FO=Y

"Any woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death."

That's a lot of fickin documentation

    GO BRITIAN!!!!

I mean, seriously, since ancestory is such a lovely thing
    owell...
    go with the flow then

    waves her American flag around...wee...
I love my country. But then again... I love all countries.
Definately won't be given a security job.

The research involved with the DAR would be significantly too much for a high membership base. It is my guess though that actual people who "could" trace their lineage that far would be many.
