    The Cosmonaut - movie

    The Cosmonaut

I stumbled upon this amazing website. Some movie producers in Spain have made this movie entirely from donation funding. It appears to be very high quality. There is a minimum donation of five Euros to watch it. Has anyone else seen it, and is it worth the price? From the clips I saw so far, it looks like an excellent film.

**On second review, looks like there is an option to watch the movie free of charge! I am going to watch it now and I will report back afterwards.

    Some observations:

    A big letdown!

The movie is based on the premise that the Soviet Union landed a cosmonaut on the moon, but then kept it a secret. From there it just turns into a big science fiction story with a love "тройка" between two cosmonauts and a girl.

The Russians are all played by British actors and they come across rather stiff and unemotional. They do not "feel" Russian to me; they certainly do not remind me much of the young Soviet guys I worked with and hung out with for two years. On the other hand, at least they are not American actors attempting to speak Russian with horrible pronunciation.

A much better movie about the cosmonauts was "Первый в Космосе".

    Meh.

There is one Russian movie that is one of my favorite movies. It's Solaris (Солярис) and it was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1972. It's based on the 1961 novel with the same title by Stanisław Lem. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, you should. The most recent remake is an American film released in 2002, starring George Clooney. It's okay, but for me, the Tarkovsky film is better since it's in Russian. It's rather bazaar that this book is one of two that came out the year of my birth that has tremendous meaning in my life, along with a near national disaster. синхронность

Geoffrey, have you seen "The Stalker" by Tarkovsky? It was shot in 1979 and was based on the book "A picniс on the roadside" by brothers Strugatsky, although the story was almost completely rewritten to make the screenplay. I think it's one of his best movies.

SergeMak, no I haven't, but I'll look it up. I watched Солярис on Hulu.com, but it doesn't have "The Stalker." I'll google it and see what I can find.
    Большое спасибо!

As long as we're on the topic of Russian cosmonauts, this video is somewhat amusing. Hopefully no one takes it offensively, but it made me laugh anyways. It's hard sometimes to predict what people will take the wrong way.

Although crowd funding is a great idea, it sounds like I'll pass on that particular one. The concept seems like a rip off of the other "open source" / crowd funded American series "Pioneer One" (kind of nice series, concept etc - I watched all episodes) and the Russian film Pervie na lune from a decade or so ago (I didn't like that film).
