Thread: Confusion

In the Czech and Slovak languages, the country Slovakia is known as
Slovenska Republika (Slovak Republic).

The adjective 'Slovak' in the Czech and Slovak languages is slovenčina.

The adjective 'Slovene' in the Slovene language is slovenščina.

I don't claim to know anything about the Czech or Slovak languages.
I know in Russian that the case used describe the concept of being on or within something ends in -a. If I am remembering right an -a is also used in describing posession? Correct?

Slovenska Republika- Slovak Republic
česka republika- Czech Republic

Could they mean something to the tune of Republic of the Czechs/ Slovaks or Republic where the Czechs or Slovaks live?
