Russian-language Web addresses were launched in May 2010, as part of a move to allow non-Latin domain names by ICANN, the entity that allocates Web addresses. About 300 addresses had been registered as of May 25 featuring the Russian Cyrillic letters. The country hopes the move will increase the use of Russian. Arabic-language sites went live in May, and ICANN is registering domain names in nine additional languages.
