через реку ехал грека.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!
Огорченно, Вы намереваетесь?Originally Posted by Dogboy182

The bear looked at the car, and reflections of fire danced in his eyes. He knew what to do.
Γιαςου!
(tell me if I spelled that right!- I'm digging back from a Greek friend I had in college about 40 years ago)
yeah, we're all a bunch of Greek freeks here. For example, last weekend I watched the play Троянки by Эврипид (Euripides) performed at UNC-Greensboro. A great antiwar play written 2500 or so years ago and just as relevant today as it was then.

Well, the word is correct but it is written 'Γειά σου'. They are 2 words.Originally Posted by chaika

You know what greek sounds a lot like to me? Since i dont understand either of these languages, greek sounds almost exactly like Spanish.
I mean AMD would have you think that it sounds like all of its processors, with the Athos, Athelon, Kosmos, Marathon, Sempron, Tampon, this and that.
But to me greek sounds just like spanish. Just like ' la baja ka la ha lala no ya ba da!"

Exactly! That's what I thought too, when I first heard Greek.Originally Posted by Dogboy182It's a periphrasis of the popular Russian скороговорка (tongue-twister?):через реку ехал грека

Ехал Грека через реку,
Видит Грека - в реке рак.
Грека сунул руку в реку,
Рак за руку Греку - цап!
Hello,
I can't find what the word
цап
means in English - please let me know what it means.
Thank you,
Scott
I think it close to:Originally Posted by fortheether

В скороговорке: Грека. Это имя такое было у человека.

Oops! And I've always thought that it was Old Russian for Greek. Сейчас исправлю.
"Цап" is an interjection (I guess ). There's also a derivative verb in colloquial speech: ц́апать / ц́апнуть - to snatch, to seize, to grab.
Got it.
Thank you!
Scott
Anyway, I am posting a link to my forum about Greece if someone is interested, and if there is something wrong the administrator can remove it.
The forum is here.
