How are you doing everybody? I am looking for ideas on how to make this forum a better place to learn Russian. What would you like to add, improve? Any ideas on new features, menu buttons, navigation, design, content, etc.? Let me know.

Daily readings of famous Russian stories or a Russian newspaper might be helpful... With translations for those learning to help them parse Russian sentences...
I am fine, thank you! How are you?Quote:

Personally I would like to see more info in users' profiles: gender, age, native language, place of birth. All of it should be optional, of course.
For example, when somebody gives you an advise on the language issue, it is useful to know, whether person who gives it is a native speaker or not.
I think it is better to place the "reply" form on the same page as the thread rather than on different page. This form should also contain fields for login and password so that user can log in if he didn't do that earlier.
A good example is forum.ixbt.com (this forum has the best engine ever IMHO).
i'm in favour of the daily text and its translation:)
about the difficulty of the text, i guess an average article from a newspaper with not too many technical words in it could be fine.
i'm trying to read parts of gazeta.ru every day but it's still extremely difficult. most of the time, i only understand the most basic ideas.
fast reply form would nice. Possibilities to attach files as well. Would be nice if it was possible to see what is primary language of user, Russian, English, Spanish etc., that would probably help to understand some replies better.
The forum also needs more people. I don't know what advertising possibilities there are, but the word needs to get out more about this place. (Especially for the forums in other languages :D )
How about changing up the colors or the template of this forum. Not change everything, but some color here and there would be very nice.
Instead of getting married again, I'm going to find a woman I don't like and just give her a house.

LOL! As expensive and less time consuming.
huh? lol.
anyways:
I had another idea. How about a chat room?
For the "Word of the Day", why not post 10 words a day instead of 1?
Stop repeating the same words of the day all the time.
I must have seen "Продукты" posted here like 10 times.
I'm all for the newspapers and such.
And colors would be nice.
I'd like to get "Topic Reply Notification" letters for each reply, not for the first one I didn't read yet. And it would be good to enclose the reply in a letter.
Maybe a forum or sticky somewhere for people to post links to other online resources they find for learning Russian... vocabulary lists, audio files, dictionaries, Russian TV streams, etc.
I noticed there is a forum for people to discuss their (text) books or audio courses but I don't know whether the things I mentioned would be appropriate to put there. I have a small collection of useful links and stuff.
I'd like to have an option to disable avatar images and graphic smiles, so people at the office won't bother me with stupid questions like "wow, who's that girl/boy in the picture?"
Foruming at the work-time? :)
No, only at breaks :P
Smokers suck their cigaretts, I post here...
Нужно зайти в "Свойства обозревателя" и сбросить галочку "Отображать рисунки".Quote:

Yes, it would be nice to have "Useful Links" forum. And another one for Russian music. :roll:Quote:

There may be a cost, or a large hassle, moderator issues, a bunch of pornography trolls, virus and hackers vs. good times and accelerated learning.
 :dunno: what do you think?
Thank you for this place though,
Best Regards
i dont think the spam would be that bad if you had to be a member to log on to the chat.
Web chat? Hell no! If people need a chat it's better to create a channel on one of existed IRC networks or set up a standalone IRC server.
Did I say "web chat"? No.
What part of what you just said rules out chat? :o
Nothing.
An irc chat-
I don't care what format you use MasterAdim.
Irc clients can be found free. How's that work on the developers side NetSurfer?
However, they take some instructional reading and be prepared to answer a bulk of questions comparable to the "How do I get cryllic to run on my machine?" threads.
I know of a forum that made a dual channel, meaning that most users could access a typical web chat, while others could enjoy the same conversation on irc.
I'm happy with any text channel you could possible provide us.
You mean how to set up an IRC server? It's not difficult, you just need a server (hardware) with some *NIX clone, and a little free time. IRC software is free.
Well, the easiest way is just to create a channel on some existing IRC network. But I doubt there will be enough people there to chat. About a web-interface to IRC, maybe there're some scripts, maybe not. And don't forget about the time difference.
Actually you can do it the way you want, and probably the most people will be happy to use a web chat. It was just my opinion :)
I don't really know the .... well I know little enough about the operation of either one (hehe got a lesson though!) bolshoe spaceeba/o!
I like irc because of the "tools" such as pass-wording your nick; setting away; changing nick 'in room', absence of lag, the absence of god-dy graphics, and the quick key colors and fonts--but mostly the speed. Oh and not needing to have an explorer window open all the time.
I like the other, because well, hey, it works!
All I really want is a chat room.
My two cents I guess.
I think having to log on to a different site using a different program would be too much hassle for the majority of forum users. It would be much better to have a built in chat on the website (sorry netsurfer, I will send you some Aquavit instead).
A poll?
How many users would actually benifit from the use of a chat function if master admin went through all that trouble to install it?
It would make me want to buy from sponsoring sites
aquavit? Are you bringing goodies into the classroom?
LOL, Ok.Quote:

To save transportation costs, you are all hereby invited to California for an Aquavit tasting session. That is, MY transportation costs
Anyway, I don't think MA is around to hear our voices anymore... or at least he seems to be turning the deaf ear to us
We had a chat on MSN but it showed lack of demand for a chat. It's hardly been used for us to switch it to our server. I would suggest users voice their opinion in this poll http://masterrussian.net/mforum/viewtop ... 6329#76329
No no no. Let's do it the way you told before! I can't afford to go to CA just to have a few glasses of Aquavit! Oh, wait... Maybe I got it the wrong way and you're going to pay for the tickets? Then no problem with the trip :DQuote:

This is a great idea...for inundating the mail server until it catches fire and explodes. There would be charred bits of sysadmins and Star Wars desk ornaments for miles.Quote:

Unfortunately, we cannot do it because such a system is protected by the US patent #6,525,74 "Method and system for conducting a discussion relating to an item". It was filed by Mr.Bezos from Amazon.com in 1999 :wink:Quote:

Who told you this one? Most Russians (if not all) would pick it up.Quote:
