    Do Russians have mothersday?

My Russian penpal has been telling me about Russian easter traditions.
She says you can't have sex for a month and you arent supposed to eat all kinds of things...interesting.

She said people are starting to celebrate holidays like Valentine's Day that Russians didn't used to know about.

What about Mothersday and Fathersday, do they celebrate those?

It's called пост (fasting). Catholics have it too, I'm not sure about protestants. Actually, only deeply religious peole really follow all rules of it. Most of people just restrict their diets slightly.

No. We have Women's Day (8th of March) and Military Day (23d of February) which is kinda seen as Men's Day.

No, protestants do not have lent as it is of pagan origins.

Having been brought up in a Church of England household, I've always been told that Lent is related to the forty days that Jesus spent in the wilderness, although I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to pagan practices. Also, the Church of England, although protestant, observes Lent, so I'm not sure if your comment applies to all protestant churches.

Lent translates as "Великий Пост" which is the longest and the strictest fasting (is it a right word?) of Orthodox Church, but not the only one.

CofE isn't strictly speaking Protestant. Anglicanism had little to do with the Reformation, it was born out of pure politics (Henry VIII wanted to get divorced and the Pope wouldn't let him), so the structure and general theology of the Anglican community is much closer to Catholicism than to the Lutherian or Calvanist reformed churces.

In the UK we have mother's day on a different day. I can't remember when it was, but it was in March I think.
