I don't know about it... but my thoughts are instantly with the families of the victims..... how horrible.
Вот потому, что вы говорите то, что не думаете, и думаете то, что не думаете, вот в клетках и сидите. И вообще, весь этот горький катаклизм, который я здесь наблюдаю, и Владимир Николаевич тоже…

Apparently, although the Tu-204 jet has a capacity of just over 200 passengers, this flight had only eight crewmembers aboard at the time of the crash. Four of the crew died more or less instantly; another died of severe head trauma in the hospital; three were hospitalized with serious injuries but are expected to survive.

I'm not sure if the exact cause is known yet, but to all evidence, the plane was intact until it hit the wall by the highway. In other words, the plane touched down safely (after arriving from the Czech Republic), but failed to stop after landing and was still moving at high speed when it went off the end of the runway.

Whether the cause was ice on the runway or a mechanical failure in the plane itself remains unclear -- but the Russian aviation administration has now voiced some concerns about the reliability of the "thrust reverse" system (which essentially helps the plane to brake after a landing) on this model of aircraft.

ASN Aircraft accident Tupolev 204-100V RA-64047 Moskva-Vnukovo Airport (VKO)

They had delivered passengers to the Czech Republic and were retuning to Moscow. The plane was empty because we have New Year holidays until January, 9. A lot of people spend the holidays in other countries.

Apparently, the engines developed high forward thrust after the landing when the crew attempted to activate reversers. The exact cause isn't known yet. The plane hit the road at speed over 200 km/h (125 mph).

rockzmom, here is the full information:

On December 29 the Russian jet Tu-204 has crash landed at the Moscow airport Vnukovo. It carried only crew members and no passengers.

    source:http://ria.ru/infografika/20121230/9...e=registration

The passenger jet Tu-204 belonging to the air company Red Wings took off from the airport of Pardubice (Czech Republic).
The plane had to land at the airport of “Vnukovo”. There were 8 people on the board. A problem of unclear nature occurred during the landing.
The plane skidded off the runway and crashed into Kievskoe highway. The plane caught fire. Traffic on the highway was stopped.

Addition: In Russia about 2% of all cars have dash cams. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the moment of the crash was caught on one of such cameras.
As one of the commenters wrote: “With all the dashcams in Russia, I’m expecting to see this crash from 30 different angles soon.“

Nikita Kasperchik, witness of the crash recalls:

“I was driving along the Kievskoe highway. Suddenly a huge lump of snow flew in my direction. First, I did not understand what it was. Then it mixed with the acrid smoke. It became clear that a plane crashed.

I parked the car, jumped over the barrier and ran to the plane. Its front part was on the highway, blocking two lanes. Rest of the fuselage was lying on the roadside.

We heard voices. Few more men ran up to the plane and we started to pull out stewards and stewardesses. We pulled out a guy and a girl, and another guy out of the cockpit.

I got into the plane itself and heard a moaning woman. I tried to get closer, but everything was broken and I fell somewhere under the floor. There was some huge pumped bag – maybe inflatable ladder? It occupied the whole interior. I dragged it aside, but could not understand where the moaning was coming from.

At this moment a wing of the plane started burning. I told the guys that there was a girl, and one of them came to the cabin. Together we found her under the seats.

The tail part of the plane was tilted down. At this time the workers of emergency services already started cleaning the debris. We shouted that there was another person. They came and helped us to take her out.

She was in bad state: looked like both of her legs were broken, she was complaining of the strong pain in legs. Another guy, from those whom we pulled out, said that he felt strong back pain – he hardly could move.

It was impossible to get into the cabin – we did not manage to break the glass. Later, the workers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived and told us: it’s okay, guys, move away, we will take it from here.”

Thanks to all especially MISSFOXYSWEETCHERRY for translating everything for me

It is interesting (and very sad) that I did not see anything about this crash on US News. Usually we do learn about airline crashes from around the world. It is amazing though that anyone survived this event. Looking at the video from the dashcam, you would think all had perished. Hopefully the Black Box will let them know what went wrong and if mechanical, they can fix it to prevent it from happening again.

After reading the report on what happen to the Air Florida crash, I was impressed as to the depth of investigation they do. They had criticized the airport for not having a better response plan in the event of a crash like the one that happen and how it was others, like a bystander who saved the passengers. I wonder if the Russian report will make a similar finding in this crash.

The video in the OP was the one I saw, at another forum. It was a horrible disaster and I'm really glad more people weren't hurt.
