What is love?
A young Australian sculptor went by ship on his honeymoon with his new, lovely wife from Russia. The ship crashed because of a heavy storm and the ocean cast ashore only the young man. He found himself on a rocky island.
"My love, my beauty! I can't live without you!" cried the young man.
The islanders knew nothing about love and asked the young man, "What is love?"
"Love carries you away to a dreamland!" He exclaimed.
"So, love is a dream?" Asked the people.
"Love burns your heart and makes it cold."
"Then love is a sickness," the islanders decided.
"For the sake of love a human is ready to do anything. Even jump off a high rock!"
"Love is madness!" Cried the frightened people.
"Love is not fire, but warms; not the sun, but shines; not armour, but defends."
"So what does love look like?" The people still could not understand.
"Love is alive. She has hands, which caress you; feet, which run to you; lips, which whisper sweet words to you."
The people shook their heads and dispersed, and the young, despairing man roamed the island for a long time. One day he found a large block of marble and decided to sculpt his beloved out of it. When the work was done, all the islanders got together around the sculpture of the beautiful, smiling girl.
"Now we have figured out what love is!" The people exclaimed.
P.S. After some time the young man went back to Australia and married to a beautiful Australian girl. But the sculpture is still there, at the unknown island somewhere in the ocean. One day I will show it you.
