I'm an EMT at a hospital in CA and work in an area with a large Slavic community. I have a few co-workers that know Russian and they are encouraging me along and helping make sure I have the phrases I have to have to work with patients as well as I can. I have been so discouraged when Russian-speaking patients come in and I can't understand or explain to them what's going on. So I'm biting the bullet and jumping in feet-first. After three weeks, I now have no pride and am willing to embarrass myself in front of practically any patient.

Anyway, there are SOO many resources here that I'll probably just sit back for a bit.

I do have a recommendation, too. A fun way to learn is to change the settings on your iPhone for a bit and wander around...I've really been challenged by doing that and also changing the settings on my computer.
